Our Dreams for the Trip

Posted on February 14, 2011. Filed under: Teen Writing, Trip |

As we embark on our journey to New Orleans, we wanted to share with you some of our dreams for this trip.

My dream for this trip is that i find that i can truly make a difference. I want to be able to feel good about my work in New Orleans. I would love to become closer with the girls on this trip. I dream that i get down and dirty and do some actual manual labor.  – E.T.

I am really excited for this trip. I think this trip will be a great experience that will teach me a lot. I hope that from this trip I get to learn more about how I can help the world. My dreams for this trip are simple. I want to come out of the trip feeling like I made a difference in the world.  – H.T.

Another difficulty will be helping people that are far less fortunate than I am without coming off as superior. This is extremely important to me. It will be nearly impossible to accomplish tikkun olam without forming a positive relationship with the people we are trying to help. It is difficult to say but very evident that many times when volunteers enter a community in order to assist those in need, it is their money rather than their labor or time that help the people most. As I embark on my New Orleans trip, my goal will be to stretch my labor and time to help as many people as possible. I look forward to our rich culture and tikkun olam filled trip to New Orleans! — H.S.

My dream for the trip is that we make a difference in peoples lives that are less fortunate than we are. I think that even if we can make a difference in one person’s life that’s good enough. I know that we will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment by the end of this, and I’m really looking forward to that. — E.W.

My dream for this trip is that I come home with a sense of accomplishment and knowing that I’ve helped. I hope to strengthen my relationships with people going on the trip, and with New Orleans (I place I have never been before). I want to stay present the whole time and be there/do whatever is needed of me. — Z.W.

As we embark on this trip, I hope to have the chance to experience a different kind of poverty then I have seen in the past. I have seen places all around the world and have volunteered in many of them, but I hope to have the opportunity to make a difference closer to home. I want to be able to form a relationship with the people that I’m helping, in addition to simply doing the work. I think one of the challenges on this trip will be to form a strong connection with the people that I will be working with because it is such a short period of time, but I am confident that we will be able to overcome this obstacle. I am excited for it to begin! — M.W.

Going into this trip I hope that I experience something that I have never experienced. Not only the physical work that we will be doing but also the city of New Orleans.  I hope to become closer with the girls on the trip. I hope that I will make an impact on all of the people that were affected by the devastating hurricane!  Most of all I hope that I have fun!!! — E.W.
